Great Scott takes three silvers
11:08am Thursday 16th February 2012

HALESOWEN cycling star Helen Scott took three silver medals at the Paracycling World Track Championships in Los Angeles.
Scott is the pilot for Aileen McGlynn in the Blind/Visually impaired category and the duo were on form at the Home Depot Velodrome.
After posting the second fastest time in the three-kilometre pursuit, Scott and McGlynn were beaten in the final by Irish duo Catherine Walsh and Francine Meehan despite a strong start.
But the result is still a significant improvement on last year, when they qualified eighth in the same event.
Scott, pictured, said: “For a few seconds in the final I thought, we can win this. But I think we got it all out in the first ride.
“We went off well trying to hold the same splits but were a little slower each time.”
Further success followed in the 1km time-trial, where Scott and McGlynn just failed to match the world record breaking pace of Australia. They also took silver on the fourth and final day of the championships in the tandem sprint.
