Rutter out to show how it's done
6:40pm Thursday 16th February 2012
KINGSWINFORD’S Michael Rutter has vowed to show the youngsters in the British Superbikes Championship that “there is life in the old dog yet.”
The racer will be 40 in April but is adamant he won’t just be making up the numbers on his MSS Colchester Kawasaki this season.
He is setting his sights on reaching the top-six shoot-out as he continues to harbour dreams of winning the title.
Rutter, who missed out on the top-six last season after a crash on his Ducati, said: “In terms of expectation it’s hard to say how it will all work.
“But my aim is to get into that top-six showdown and by then I know we’ll be firing on all four cylinders. Then with the way the points work — anything could happen!
“I can’t wait to get out on the new bike and show there’s still some life in the old dog yet!”
Rutter first rode for MSS team owner Nick Morgan back in 2007 and hopes for better fortunes second time around.
He added: “I like Nick, we go back a long way and I know I’ll be able to get on with the job without the messing around too.
“I also think the new ‘Ten’ is a good bike for UK tracks.
“It’s true when I rode for Nick in 2007 we struggled a bit with set-up.
“But the bike is completely different now.”
