Archdeacon collects prayers from Brierley Hill shoppers
2:49pm Wednesday 22nd February 2012

THE Archdeacon of Dudley stopped off in Brierley Hill this morning to collect prayers from shoppers who wanted him to 'Say One for Them'.
Archdeacon Fred Trethewey spent his Ash Wednesday in the town centre hearing the concerns of residents.
The prayer requests were then written on cards and will be received at the Ash Wednesday service in Worcester Cathedral tonight to mark the beginning of Lent.
Archdeacon of Dudley, Fred Trethewey, said: “It means a lot to know that other people are praying for me. It was good to offer the people we met in Brierley Hill an opportunity to have their concerns remembered.”
The event is a national initiative inspired by the Bishop of Worcester, who first collected people’s prayers outside the Jobcentre in Redditch in 2009.This year many Church of England bishops will be collecting requests in towns and cities up and down the country after the project was rolled out nationally.
Ash Wednesday is an important date in the Christian calendar and is a day of penitence to cleanse the soul before the Lent fast begins in the run-up to Easter.
