Dudley MP to go out on the beat tonight
3:40pm Friday 3rd February 2012
DUDLEY North MP Ian Austin is getting set to spend tonight out on the beat with Dudley Police Specials.
The MP has taken up the invitation of James Horton, Head of Dudley Special Constabulary, to get an insight into the work of the volunteers, who work alongside regular officers in dealing with crime and anti-social behaviour.
There are currently 70 members of the Special Constabulary based on Dudley Local Policing Unit, covering Sedgley, Dudley, Brierley Hill, Kingswinford, Netherton, Halesowen, Stourbridge and Lye.
Ian Austin MP said: “The commitment of the Police Specials is really admirable. They give up their own time, unpaid to help fight crime and make our streets safer.
“James Horton and his team do vital work in supporting regular police officers and tackling crime and anti-social behaviour. Specials are the unsung heroes of the police force and I’m looking forward to seeing for myself what the job involves.”
