Council relocates staff in modernisation plans
11:10am Friday 27th January 2012
DUDLEY Council is relocating all of its HR staff in a cost-cutting move set to free up millions of pounds.
In a bid to modernise the council office space, the authority has begin refurbishing Regent House in King Street, with council staff from 4 Ednam Road, 8 Parsons Street in Dudley and Capstan House in Brierley Hill, relocating to the new premises from June.
Leader of the Council, Councillor Les Jones, said the move is the first phase of the modernisation programme aimed at making the council’s use of office space for its 1,800 staff members as cost-effective as possible.
He said: “The modernisation of the office accommodation the council owns will also involve the disposal of between 10 and 12 surplus buildings which will secure around £3.5 million in capital benefits as well as revenue savings of around £450,000 each year to go back into delivering frontline services."
At this stage the buildings set for sale have not been released, but will not include the main council house, 4 Ednam Road, 3, 4, 5 and 7 St James’s Road or 8 Parsons Street.
