11:30am Thursday 29th July 2010

STAFF at a Netherton manufacturing company which designs and makes sluices received a royal seal of approval from the Duke of Edinburgh at a royal reception at Buckingham Palace.
Industrial Penstocks, based in Washington Street, was awarded the Queens Award for Enterprise in International Trade earlier this year and staff attended a special presentation event at the palace last week where they received their coveted award – an engraved chalice and a Grant of Appointment.
The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise is the UK’s most prestigious accolade for business performance – recognising and rewarding outstanding achievement by UK companies in overseas earnings.
Exports make up 80 per cent of Industrial Penstocks’ turnover and the company has developed worldwide markets over the last six years and is now leading the way in the USA, the Middle East, Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and the Falklands.
Director Paul Higginson said:“We were delighted to win a Queen’s Award and the celebration at Buckingham Palace was a fantastic occasion as well as a superb networking opportunity.
“In particular, the Duke of Edinburgh congratulated me warmly and was very interested in the business.”
He added: “Within hours of the announcement that we had received a Queen’s Award, I received an email of congratulations from a customer in Sri Lanka, promising to place another order with us later this year”"
Winners of The Queen's Award are now able to use the emblem on all their branding and company literature.
